Chapter 4 — Greek Syllabification Drill

For each word: (a) divide into syllables using hyphens, (b) name the accented syllable position (ultima / penult / antepenult), (c) name the accent type (acute / grave / circumflex). Click ▶ Answer to reveal.

Syllable rules reminder: (1) One vowel/diphthong per syllable. (2) A single consonant between vowels goes with the following syllable. (3) When two consonants appear between vowels, divide so the second syllable begins with a cluster that can start a Greek word. Ultima = last syllable · Penult = second to last · Antepenult = third to last.

Part A — Two and Three Syllable Words

Divide, identify the accent position, and name the accent type.
